Werewolves in the Woods

On November 6th, 2011 alyseluvsmike contacted me asking if Just Leafy and I were up to doing a night cache called Werewolves in the Woods - GC25D98.  I was pretty sure I had to miss out, as I was watching Just Leafy's Soccer game at the PISE at Camosun College.  They said they would wait until the game was finished and to contact them when we were ready.  But just after they hung up I got a call from my buddy that started me geocaching, thefuturespud.  He wanted to have coffee with me, but I declined and told him what I was doing.  He was interested too, so with a few quick calls thefuturespud was in on the hunt.

We (alyseluvsmike, Just Leafy, ShadowcsterCDN, thefuturespud and meleakett) all met at the prescribed parking coordinates and checked batteries, mounted head lamps, and away we went.  We followed the reflectors that were nicely spaced  for a little while, but all too soon they started to be a long distance apart.  Because of the distance of them we made a wrong turn at one point, this was due to the sap on a particular tree formed a globule that reflected light back at us and so we mistook it for a reflector.
Eventually we discovered our mistake and corrected ourselves.  And not too long after that we discovered our mistake and corrected ourselves.

Not too far ahead after we were back on track we came to the den of the werewolves and of course the cache.  After looking at the goodies and making any trades we decided to celebrate and held a flashlight party right there See The Video By Clicking Here.
And after the trek back the the vehicles we all went for some food at the Log House Pub and played musical BINGO.

What a fantastic night cache adventure.

The Second Milestone (250)

So time has obviously passed, and many more caches were found.  But with that the second milestone became a reality, and that was the 250th.  That cache was "GC2HABH - RACE10 - Eeek! Not another one! by Landsharkz", and we found this on October 30th, 2010.

We arrived at the cache site and got ourselves ready to head out, and RVTraveller and iflyrc2 (with both their wives) pulled up beside us.  We as a team headed out together to the cache site, and after a decent stroll down the beach we found the cache.  We really got a laugh out of this one, and the warning that if this was found by muggles would lead to this cache being archived made perfect sense.

It was a great way to have found this.  It would have been really funny to have found this with Just Leafy, but it was way nicer to have been with an impromptu group!!!  To read the log CLICK HERE.

Beware the Witching Hour is Nigh!

We had been eyeballing this since we got our first taste of night caches. Just Leafy and I could not understand the starting spot as it seemed to be in the middle of the road, but at a recent event we got a hint from alyseluvsmike and all was understood.

On October 23, 2010 we headed out with a team of people just dying to get this done.  Came out with pracademics, Just Leafy, alyseluvsmike and meleakett. We started out the journey into the night armed with our lights, glow-bracelets and a sense of adventure.

All was well as we trekked into woods placing our glow-bracelets on branches as we went, making our way to the final. Some of the terrain was a little tough to navigate as the ground was wet and moss and mud made a lot of the area slippery. But in the end we made it to our destination and found the cache.

With the signing and rummaging through the bevy of goodies in the container done, we headed back out of the woods. But then it was man down, well in fact woman down. Poor Just Leafy took a spill but luckily with no injury, in fact she thought the fall corrected her back problem a little.
After following our glow markers back out and collecting them on the way, we headed off to enjoy some food and beverage at the 4 Mile Pub.

Thanks go to  alyseluvsmike for staging this get together and getting us all out to get this one off the list!

10/10/10

On October 10th, 2010 we celebrated 10/10/10. GCGV hosted thier 10-10-10 at 10 event at Serious Coffee in Veiw Royal, and this particular event was special to us because it marked our 200th find.

This was one of our earliest events (our 3rd I think), and we had a blast!
We got to meet so many new people, and learned so much about puzzles and multi-stage caches. We forged some new friendships, and started planning grand adventures.

Thank you GCGV for such a fun event!

The First Milestone (100)

We were pondering how we were going to write these logs and tell our geocaching story without having to wrack our brains for all the details. We decided to do it in milestones up until we catch up with today. Which won't be be hard if we do it by geo-achievements of 100, 250, 500 and 1000.

We could have easily gotten our 100th find in the same month as us starting, but it was a very busy time for Just Leafy. Needless to say I could not cache at all for a couple of weeks until Just Leafy was free to head out with me. Finally the time came on September 11th, 2010 and we headed out to by the airport. There was this one out there that I had my eye on that I felt would be nice, quick and easy for us to get. That cache was "GCT2N4 - CYYJ, Victoria Air Travel Bug Agency by Mushroom Doom" YOU CAN READ THE LOG BY CLICKING HERE.

Anyway I got into a little trouble with Leafy here because I forgot to read to her the hint and description, and because I found it in like 20 seconds of arrival at the coordinates.  But a little smoothing over with the promise of ice cream made everything ok.  And that was our 100th find!  I know it's not a very interesting story, but it was our first milestone together!

Our First Event! Our First CITO!!

On August 14th, 2010 Just Leafy and I attended our first geocaching event. This event was hosted by AnnieMaroo and was in two parts. The first was the awards for the BLITZ 2010 and a CITO (Cache In Trash Out). It was a really hot day, infact I am sure it was the hottest day of that particular summer! We had no idea at this time what cachers were like about time (they are nearly always early and nearly always start early), so when we arrived on time for the event it was pretty much done. But we got to meet a few new people, and stayed to pick up trash even though everyone had left.

Thanks for the event AnnieMaroo, it was a pleasre to meet you and the small group of cachers that were still there!!

And So The Adventure Began

On August 1st, 2010 a good friend of mine meets me late in the evening for a steaming cup of Joe at one of our favorite haunts.  While in line he asks me "Have you ever heard of Geocaching?", and I respond "Yes I have"!  I was introduced to this interesting sport a few years back by some friends in Nanaimo on New Years Day.  I actually really enjoyed our little outdoor adventure and had thought about it many times in the past, but could never justify the cost of a GPSr.  But on this night my friend tells me there is an app for the iPhone that does the job and that it only costs $9.99 CDN.  This blew my mind, because I already owned a iPhone and spending $9.99 was not a problem at all.  We finished our coffee and headed out to make our very first find just after midnight, and so my Geocaching experience begins on August 2nd.

We headed over to the UVIC area and found "GC26ZY4 - Movies1 SUB by tophertuttle", and we called it a night.  But that next day we headed back out and began anew.  This is when Just Leafy (my girlfriend) began caching too, but we had not adopted a team name for the two of us yet.  And the story continues on in future logs!
